My apologies for this late entry for the Sunday film, I was busy watching the Golden Globes and going through a huge stack of videos.
I began Sunday by watching some old VHS videos of stuff I recorded in the past. I found several gems that I thought I’d lost. Stuff like a documentary on the making of Mystery Science Theatre 3000, the Opus and Bill the Cat Christmas TV special, some old Smother Brothers shows, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, old episodes of the Sci-Fi Channel’s Sci-Fi Buzz, and episodes of Dr. Franklin Ruehl’s Mysteries from Beyond the Other Dominion. It was like taking a trip down memory lane watching these videos and how warped by TV viewing habits were back in the day.
Sunday afternoon I decided to see a film that I haven’t seen in a while. I originally saw this film up in Los Angeles when it was released. Today’s film is Monster starring an unrecognizable Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci.
The film centers around the life of Aileen Wuornos, a highway prostitute turned serial killer in Florida who strikes up a lesbian relationship with Selby (Christina Ricci), who has been sent to live with relatives to cure her homosexuality. Aileen and Selby meet up in a lesbian bar and from there their relationship blossoms. Both daydream and yearn for an escape to live healthy normal lives. But when Aileen kills in self defense, the murder spree begins.
